“Catch the Reading Bug” at
Moore Memorial Library this
Summer
Family Programs –Wednesdays in July at 7 pm
July 2, 2008 Safari Bob & Annie will
present Totally Bugged Out, a fun-filled interactive musical performance all
about bugs and insects and their relatives. Annie and Safari Bob will present
original songs and dances based on true facts about the insect world. Lady
bugs, butterflies and black widows are all topics of the show. Safari Bob and
Annie will also donate 4 of their CDs to the library for the children’s music
collection. They have 9 CD’s,
hosted their own TV show for 3 years, and
are the house band for the Bronx Zoo
July 9, 2008 the Traveling Lantern Theatre
Company will visit the library and present “The Caterpillar Hunter: a vegetable
safari”. Based on the beloved
character of the late Steve Irwin, the Caterpillar Hunter shrinks himself and
sets off to explore the terrain - pursuing elusive bugs and strange herbage in
the wild recesses of a common North American vegetable garden. Using two
actors and volunteers from the audience a full play will be produced.
July 16, 2008 Tales ‘n Tunes (Carol Connolly
and Don Darmer) will entertain the community with Wild about Reading: wings,
stings and leggy things. The audience
will be encouraged to unleash their imaginations and explore new places.
Designed to encourage children to read, this lively and highly participatory
show invites kids to listen to and take part in stories and songs which
celebrate reading. A combination of music and storytelling excitement, this
performance includes folk and fairy tales that will spark kids' imaginations, encourage
them to explore new places and picture new and familiar characters. Young
listeners will interact with songs about the library, favorite storybook
characters, and the joys of reading. Throughout, the duo stresses one simple
message: Reading is fun
July 23, 2008 Singing Bees and Jumping Beings will be
presented by Cathy McGrath of the Teakettle Music Company. A
program of singing games and cherished songs with links to story books will
keep everyone buzzing around and circling left and right as the audience learns
the dance steps to play party games. An experienced folk music performer, with
a specialty in traditional American singing games, Cathy McGrath will be using
a guitar, autoharp, limberjacks, flute and penny whistle in her program.
July 30, 2008 Storyteller, Diane Edgecomb
will perform Insect
Comedy, which takes a delightful look at our six-legged
friends. Diane is recognized nationally as a leader in innovative ways of
linking storytelling and nature. Entertaining facts are served up along with
plenty of silliness. Kate's Acorn, one of Diane's original stories,
teaches about the importance of soil creatures in the life cycle of plants.
Diane's hilarious interpretations will keep the audience laughing.
