Policies & Services

Loan Periods & Renewals:

Books- 3 weeks, 1 renewal
Audios(books/music cassettes)- 3 weeks, 1 renewal
Compact discs, music/books-3 weeks, 1 renewal
Videos/DVD's- 1 week, no renewal
Periodicals-1 week, 1 renewal
Puppets-1 week, no renewal
Framed Art- 4 weeks, no renewal

Fees & Fines:

Copier services-$.15 per page

Videos/DVD's-$1.00 per day
Interlibrary Loan-$.50 per day
All other library material-$.10 per day overdue

Lost/Damaged material - Patrons will be billed  for the costs of lost materials plus a processing fee. There may be a charge for damaged items depending on the severity of

the damage.  If the item cannot be repaired, then a replacement fee will be assessed.

Donations- Guernsey Library accepts book donations.  Complete the Book Donation Form and submit at the Circulation Desk.

Interlibrary Loan:

You may obtain materials from other libraries that are not owned at the Norwich library.

Any registered borrower in good standing may use interlibrary loan. Direct, online request

is available using the Four County library System. Forms are available at the desk for out-of-system requests.

 

Computers:

The computerized card catalog (OPAC) is a service of the Four County Library Systems.  Guernsey has 5 OPAC stations throughout the library.


Internet usage:

The library has several Internet computers:  6 adult and 1 juvenile.  We also provide 1 reference research computer and 1 games computer.

The library provides wireless internet access (wi-fi) for laptop users.

All patrons must have their library card in hand in order to access the internet computers.

There is a 1 hour daily time limit. Patrons with fines may be blocked until fines are addressed.

Printing charge is $.20 per page.

There is a laptop available for short term circulation.  Ask at the Circulation Desk.

The library also offers a webcam service for military families wanting to video conference with their enlisted relatives.



Meeting Room:
The Meeting Room is available during library hours of operation.  Persons interested in using the room should review our policies then submit a completed application along with payment to the library.  Please read and print the Meeting Room Application and the Meeting Area Policy.



Programs:
The Library plans many programs throughout the year. It is our goal to reach all populations within the community and to be responsive to the needs of the community. For those persons offering programs for the library, a W-9 form may be required.  Please print and submit the completed form to the Library's Account Clerk for processing.




Outreach Services:
Daycare visits-Free delivery of materials is made to local day care centers. Onsite Collections-A rotating collection of books are delivered to local nursing homes and senior housing.

The library is closed on Sundays from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend


Mission Statement:

Guernsey Memorial Library serves as a focal point for community services and will provide high interest materials meeting patrons' current recreational, educational, and vocational needs, utilizing available current technology, with special emphasis on stimulating patrons' interest and appreciation for reading, literacy, and lifelong learning.
