The George F. Johnson Memorial Library is a member of the Four County Library System. Other member libraries include the Broome County Public Library (Binghamton), Johnson City, Vestal, Norwich, Oneonta, Sidney, and the other public libraries in Broome, Chenango, Delaware and Otsego counties.

Policies

        How To Borrow Materials:
Apply at the Loan Desk to receive your Four County Library Card
which may be used at any Four County Library. You must present
your library card number to borrow any items.  You may review 
your account online once you have a PIN number, including items
checked-out, reserves, and fines.

        Non-Residency Fee:
A $25.00 annual fee (per household) is required if you reside
outside of the Four County Library System (Broome, Delaware,
Otsego or Chenango Counties). If you are a non-resident, but
own property within Broome County, please inform the library staff.

        New York Confidentiality Statute CPLR 4509:
No library user may access the computer record of any other library
user unless they present the library card or card number of the
other user.

        Loan Periods:
Most items check out for 21 days.  Videocassettes check out for 7 days.

        Renewals:
Most items may be renewed once. Bring your item into the library
to renew or renew items via the telephone.  The following items
may not be renewed: items with reserves waiting; audio-visual
items; pamphlets; periodicals; sculptures; and art prints.
 
        Reserves:
Items may be reserved in person at the Information Desk, by phone, or directly
          using the online catalog. You must have your library card number available
when you place a reserve (your PIN number is also required to place an online
          reserve).  You must also have your card when you come to the library to pick up
your reserve.  There is a 25 cent fee for each reserve, payable when you pick up
          the item at the Loan Desk.  If an item is not picked up after you are notified,
the 25 cent fee will be applied to your record.
        
        Information Services:
Resources owned throughout the Four County Library System may be
located via the computerized catalog.
Certain items not owned by the library may be obtained via
Interlibrary Loan for the 25 cent reserve fee. Items cataloged as
REFERENCE are not available for check out.

        Charges:
Overdue charges are set to encourage timely returns.
Books, Audio materials, Periodicals, Pamphlets & Puppets: $.10 for each day the library is open
Paintings & Sculptures: $.25
Videocassettes: $1.00
Postal Charges on Overdue Notices: Current postal rate
Damage Charges: Range from $.50 to the cost of the item
Library Meeting Room: $10.00 per meeting usage fee
Photocopies: $.15 per copy
Fax Service:$1.00 per page for U.S. numbers. International faxes cost $5.00 for the first page
and $2.50 for each successive page.
Internet copies: First three pages free, subsequent pages $.15 each
Microfilm/microfiche copies: $.25 per copy
NOTE: Borrowing privileges will be denied if any
items are overdue or if fines per person total $5.00
or more.

        Internet/Computer Service:

        
The library offers Roadrunner Internet service for patron use.  
       A wireless network is also available. Use is governed by the 
       Library's Internet Usage Policy. Users are limited to one hour 
       per day, and are encouraged to reserve time in advance.   
       Users may print three pages for free.  Subsequent pages are 
       15 cents each.  The library computers also offer a wide range 
       of application programs and games, includes Microsoft Word, 
       Excel, and Access.  E-mail is available through web-based 
       e-mail accounts (Hotmail, Yahoo etc.)

        Special Collections:

       Records, compact discs, Audio & Visual Videocassettes;
       Young Adult fiction, non-fiction & paperbacks;
       Children's paperbacks; Adult science fiction, western & romance  
       paperbacks; Mysteries; Literacy readers; Career center; Large 
       Print books; Automotive repair manuals; Books-on-Tape; 
       Art prints & Sculptures; Periodical indexes. The New York Times 
       is available on microfilm from 1970 & the Binghamton Press from 1985. 
       Some local newspapers are available on micro-film from the 1850's.
       The library also subscribes to a selection of online databases.

         Friends of the Library:

         Become a Friend of the Library!

        For $5.00, help provide the extras which ensure this
        library serves the whole community. There are no
        obligations involved unless you choose to volunteer.
        Book Sales:
Sales are held on the first and third Fridays of the month,
from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.; and the middle Saturday
of the month from 11:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m.  No Saturday
sales during July and August.
        Books Reviews:
Held during the months of April and October.
