Antique Books
Interested in antiques? The library has many books to help
you identify and price items. Here are just a few of the many titles we have
available:
"Warman's Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide" is an annual
volume and contains more than 2,000 color photos to help make identifying
your items easier. There are current price listings and reports on trends.
There is also information on fakes, reproduction alerts, and
manufacturer's markings. An easy-to-use guide.
"Collectibles Price Guide" by Judith Miller and Mark Hill is
small enough to take along if you are a garage sale shopper. Color
photographs are shown with each item with descriptions and current prices.
Collector notes are also included.
"Antiques 101" by Frank Farmer Loomis is a crash course in
antiques.
Learn the 16 major furniture styles and the six most
commonly used woods. Then use furniture styles to date and identify other
antiques. There's also information on the various types of china, silver,
pewter and their markings.
"Garage Sale & Flea Market Annual" talks about how the field
of collectibles is ever changing. With the advent of eBay, even prices have
dramatically changed. This book is mostly a listing of collectibles by type
with prices. Few pictures are included, but if you've already got a
collection you want to price, this is a quick way to do it. Lots of
interesting items that you may not have even considered being worth anything
at all.
Judith Miller's "Antiques Price Guide" contains thousands of
color photographs in more than 250 categories. Prices, identifying marks,
sizes and dates are included. Similar pieces with price differences are also
shown making this a very useful volume. Qualities of exceptional items are
also noted. She also gives tips on anticipating trends, how to spot fakes
and where to buy and sell. One of the best books for learning about many
different types of antiques.
