After his
wife Lexy is found dead beneath a tree in their back yard, linguistics
professor Paul Iverson becomes obsessed with trying to figure out what
happened. His dog Lorelei, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, was the only
witness to the odd event. Through a little bit of science and a

communicate, in hopes that she will some day be able to explain what
happened to Lexy.

The
Giving Tree
by Shel Silverstein
Children’s
Picture Books section
Here is a children’s book that every adult
should also read. The Giving Tree will do anything to try to make The
Boy happy. It gives all that The Boy asks for - shade, apples, a place
to climb and swing. But when the boy asks for too much, the tree gives
and gives to the point of self-destruction. This is a little book with a
lot of meaning. The Giving Tree reminds us never to lose ourselves in
pursuit of someone else’s happiness.

Stiff: the Curious Lives of
Human Cadavers by Mary Roach
"In this
fascinating, ennobling account, Mary Roach visits the good deeds of
cadavers over the centuries from the anatomy labs and human-sourced
pharmacies of medieval and nineteenth-century Europe to a human decay
research facility in Tennessee, to a plastic surgery practice lab, to a
Scandinavian funeral directors' conference on human composting. In her
droll, inimitable voice, Roach tells the engrossing story of our bodies
when we are no longer with them. 13 b/w illustrations."
